Biography

Damien Rattler & the Electric Soul Circus is a rhythm and blues band formed in Toronto, Ontario that echo the sounds of Rock, Funk and Folk. The band came together around charismatic Singer/Songwriter Damien Rattler in 2012, adding a new range of styles and instruments to his soul-inspired sound. Characterized by their powerful live performance energy, the Toronto-based quintet (vocalist Damien Rattler, guitarist Christopher Bove, bassist Mike Policicchio, drummer David Bove and keyboardist Patrick Albernaz) have wowed audiences since their conception. After a creative push in early 2015, the band released their first self-titled EP Damien Rattler & the Electric Soul Circus in August of 2015. The album is fueled through funky backbone grooves, electrifying guitars, articulate lines and raw, edgy vocals blended into a soulful blues-heavy gumbo. The band released five singles in 2016: "Bad Luck Son"; "Willow Stand Alone"; "Better Run"; "Need You" & "Downtown Hustle." There is a little bit of everything in their melting pot of music- from deep lyric ballads, upbeat riff rock & roll and raunchy blues. The spirit of Damien Rattler & the Electric Soul Circus is deeply saturated in roots music- fusing both classic and modern styles.

LYRICS

(Lyrics written by Damien Rattler)

Bad Luck Son

Tough break and a losing hand

Cold deal’s all I ever had

Hit me up! Hit me up!

Need something real

Something I can surely feel

Rip it up! Rip it up!

What I am, is what I am- I am! A bad luck son

Hot rocks and a bag of toys

Windy city women and a bad luck boy

Give it up! Give it up!

There’s one fire burning

Flames crawl up the summer sky

Burn it up! Burn it up!

What I am, is what I am

What I am, is what I am- I am! A bad luck son

I’m a bad luck son

Since the day I was born

I’m a bad luck son

Lord, I’ve been bitten

I’m a bad luck son

Bad luck haunting me

I’m a bad luck son

Can’t catch a break

I’m a bad luck son

There’s nothing I can’t take

I’m a bad luck son

Hang tight staying in the middle

I’m a bad luck son

I payed the cost

I’m a bad luck son

I’ve won, I’ve fought and I lost

Down south in Louisian’

Hard times playing in the band

Riff it up! Riff it up!

I will tell you if you have to know

I’m custom made from head to toe

Kick it up! Kick it up!

What I am, is what I am…

What I am, is what I am…

What I am, is what I am- I am! A bad luck son

Better Run

You’re divine

Take my love and let it shine, ya!

 Y’know I would and I should

Do it baby like I know you could, now

Shh! Better run and call your mama

Better run and call your mama

Better run and call your mama

Better run and call

Scream it baby, cause’ I waited so long!

So fine, sweet honey, sour as lime

I wouldn’t lie I’d rather die!

I really love your sweet potato pie

Hot cash, in a stack

Black cherries dripping down your back

See the sign? Sixty nine

Sweet peaches right off your vine, baby

Could’ use some satisfaction

Could’ use some satisfaction

Could’ use some satisfaction

Take a load off all around

Mama told me ain’t nothin’ easy

Mama told me ain’t nothin’ easy

Mama told me ain’t nothin’ easy

My Mama she said

“Speak up child- gotta’ make some noise!”

Blue City

I hear people dyin’

Windy, cold mornin’ rain

Consumed by the blood- they were forced to pay

Gamblin’ is a dog gone shame

Yonder comes a man

Shotgun in his hand

He don’t care- he don’t give a damn

To shoot me right through the head

You’ never know around the bend

Everything’s a damn dead end

Don’t assume, you won’t understand

You’ll never know second hand

Lost my job

Lost my wife

I almost done’ lost my life

I’m running high and out of sight

Anything can happen tonight

Big bad blue city

Running all through my veins

Got no ticket- I got no money

To steam right out on this train

The final round is the sweetest sound

Been’ up and down

All around this town

I’m all on the line

In the sharp east side

Nowhere to go

Nowhere to hide

Cathouse Rag

Underneath Bourbon Street

A little joint was born

Big boss man pulled the plug on

All the red light clubs

St. Louis Lou’s lady put him down

After she found out

He ain’t playing in church no more

Y’know he’s working in the devil’s house

Shot down the river

Rollin’ on like a vagabond

Was all good until the blue books burned

Right through the Iron Grille

Madam Mae took him in

N’ gave him his boogie shoes

“Louie, you can play what you want”

He said, “swing is my saving grace…”

For ten long years she was the star

The queen of New Orleans

A slow seduction is her best bet

Now that her man done left

Law move’ her down low

Tryin’ to make a dime

Do whatever it takes

Dirty rats abuse their badge

Threaten to throw her away

Three AM and no sign of love

It’s getting tough to see

Steamboat screams as the smoke grows thick

Smell the bootleg liquor

Keep on using her for their appetites

When will she break?

Lipstick stains are all that remain

Of a broken, bayou belle

Choice is an illusion

Schooled for control

So it’s fueled by confusion

And practiced through fear

The plan is poisonous

Differences divide

The machine was designed round’ the dollar sign

People have the power

It’s up to them to decide

There’s no judging or sacrifice of identity

At least there’s a chance to be free

Nobody here to dictate the way things should be

Death Of Me

When the early morning strains my eyes

Closing with the rising sun

Taste the fumes of sweet champagne

Wanna’ see you shake

Show me your shake

I believe I need to move along

Seems I’m always with those blues at dawn

The moon fades away and it’s gone

Looks like there’s gonna’ be hell to pay

She won’t ever let me have my rest

Until it’s a cryin’ shame

She said baby, love me one more time

Rollin’ all night long, rollin’ all night long

This woman won’t let me be

Boogied north and south

Rockin’ east and west

Even though she don’t mean no harm

Still' gonna’ be the death of me

Still' gonna’ be the death of me

I believe I need to move along

Seems I’m always with those blues at dawn

The moon fades away and it’s gone

Looks like there’s gonna’ be hell to pay

Still’ gonna' be the death of me

Still’ gonna' be the death of me

Still’ gonna' be, still' gonna' be,

Still' gonna' be, still' gonna' be ya ya!

Still’ gonna' be the death of me

Still’ gonna' be the death of me

Still’ gonna' be the death of me

Still’ gonna' be the death of me

Downtown Hustle

I wanna get that sunshine

Take a ride to California

Looking for a woman

Her name is Caledonia

Everybody’s a’ runnin’

Like a zoo on the loose

It’s wide open

Better bring your walkin’ shoes

I often wonder

If I could live out on the water?

Or grow my wings long

And sail the southern sky

Maybe settle down?

Build along the countryside

Gotta’ hustle if I’m

Gonna’ make it in the city

Finally found my baby

Said’ “daddy I missed you”

As I stared at the traffic

You have to floor it on the green

There’s no solution

For this urban revolution

Everyday it’s a sprint here

No one said it was a marathon anyway!

Funk Your Blues

One night I was layin’ down

Begging this old world for mercy

Old blues used to beat me bad

Mean, old, low-down blues

I try to shake em’ best I can

With a heart of stone

And funky healing for those

Low, down, dirty blues

Low, down, dirty blues

Low, down, dirty blues

Low, down, dirty blues

Low, down, dirty blues

All we need is a funky groove

Make your blues funky, make em’ funky now!

It makes you feel good to be alive

I forget my fears

I won’t have to drown no more

In the flood of my own tears

In the flood of my own tears

In the flood of my own tears

In the flood of my own tears

In the flood of my own tears

Wash your blues in the funky flood

Blues move away

Wash your blues in the funky flood

Blues move away

Wash your blues in the funky flood

Blues move away

Blues move away… blues move away… blues move away

Move away!

Before they run you down

Put out these blues

Ya…oh ya funky groove

Mother Karma

Rackin’ em’ up low and slow

Too bad baby bit every bone

Whoa, this woman is a natural crime

Still got a beat- it bleeds all the time

Hard luck done reigned it won’t ever miss

It’ll rip your heart and sting like a kiss

Wavy like a river

The Mississippi River

Buzzing round’ in me

Baby’s dancing in the water, ya!

I was in the deep, funky sea

I don’t care about the clothes you wear

You just wanna be a millionaire

Got them blues and they’re here to stay

Never gonna’ change your ways

Only but one thing I wish you shared

Your love honey child on my rockin’ chair

Wavy like a river

The Mississippi River

Buzzing round’ in me

Baby’s dancing in the water, ya!

I was in the deep, funky sea

You get what you give

Karma don’t forgive

When it all

Comes back around

You’re gonna’ get it

You’re gonna’ get it

You’re gonna’ get it

Gonna’ get it, gonna’ get it

When it comes around

Need You

I need you, I really do

You’re entangled in lies

I miss you, you know it’s true

I’ve never been good with goodbyes

In the heart of the bayou

On a warm summer night

Where we were made

Ooh, ooh…

I crave you and I’m thinking of you

The well of your lovin’s gone dry

Your eyes pierced my memory

Like two black holes in the sky

When I would hold you

At the back of the Bayou

That’s where it ended

Where it began

Sometimes, something inside of me wants to explode

I still love you more than life

I need you

Sometimes, something inside of me wants to explode

I still love you more than life

I need you

Tomorrow’s Too Long

There is no tomorrow

The past is a heavy load

Today there’s a brand new sun

Live now before it’s gone

When you’re down but you don’t know

When you’re down but you just don’t know

All we have to do is let it go

Yesterday’s gone and tomorrow’s too long

Everything we need is right now…right now.

Since I got the blues for you

My mind’s been torn in two

Aw’ babe you know

You know I’m all alone

You have me hurting in a hard place

You have me hurting in a hard place

Everywhere I go I see your face

Yesterday’s gone and tomorrow’s too long

Baby, let me love you tonight

You have me hurting in a hard place

You have me hurting in a hard place

Everywhere I go I see your face

Yesterday’s gone and tomorrow’s too long

Hey, hey...hey, hey

Hey, oh…hey, oh…hey, oh

Hey, hey, ya, ya ya

Yesterday’s gone

Tomorrow’s too long

Hey, hey…hey, hey

Hey, hey…hey, hey

Hey, hey…right now

ya, ya ya…right now

Hey, hey…hey, hey

Hey, hey…hey, hey

Hey, hey…hey, hey

It’s too long, too long, too long

Right now

Willow Stand Alone

Oh don’t look back

Seven million miles and I wonder

How I wish it could last

The rise of a chapter and the end of another

Time travels fast

Bring the thunder or you’re under all…

All the way through…through…

Through the moss in the black

It feels I lost more than I gathered

If I had another chance

I’d listen closer for the answer

Stead’ of shit that don’t matter

It’s all in the past

These fragile possessions sweep me closer

More and more

All the way back to you…you, you, you, you...

When I read

What you said

Ooh, ooh

In your letter

Tried to hurt me

And desert me

Now my blood bathes the roots of misery
